Notes	Slight wear on spine. The photographs in this album appear to be for the most part commercially produced for tourist trade and sale to newspapers. Not taken by London.

Jack London (1876-1916) was an American author best known for his fiction about California, Alaska, and the Pacific. His novel The Call of the Wild is among the most internationally popular works by an American. An autodidact, he directed his thirst for knowledge toward several passions, including sailing, ranching, and photography. He traveled widely, to Hawaii and throughout the South Pacific, through California, Oregon, Nevada, to Korea during the Russo-Japanese war, Mexico during the Mexican Civil War, and London, England, experiences which are reflected in his writing and his photographs.

1904년 잭 런던은 러일전쟁을 취재하기 위해 증기선을 타고 하와이 일본을 거처 한국 인천 제물포항으로 들어와 수백장의 사진을 남겼다. 이 사진들은 골동품이 되어 흘러 흘러 다니다가 영국에서 발견되어 한 얼론사 자료실에 보관되어 정리되어 있다.

p. 3 - Portrait of three men, two sitting, one standing. All three wear traditional white clothing. Each wears a different style hat, from left to right: "jangbogwan" "gat" and "jeongjagwan. A decorative backdrop behind them, a potted tree stands in the center of the group.

p. 4 - Two men sit on either side of a small table with a potted plant on top. Each sits with one knee bent and crossed over the other, both wear traditional white clothing. The man on the left wears a "jeongjagwan" hat and holds a pair of glasses on his lap. The man on the right,wears a "jangbogwan" style hat.

p. 7 - Korea priest. Portrait of a man sitting with hands together in prayer. He wears a black hat, beads around his neck, and a cloth bag over one shoulder. Beside him is a potted tree and a table with books and a vase on it.

p. 8 - Korean official. Portrait of three men, two sitting, one standing. All three wear traditional white clothing. Each wears a different style hat, from left to right: "jangbogwan" "gat" and "jeongjagwan. A decorative backdrop behind them, a potted tree stands in the center of the group.

p. 9 - Yangban. Portrait of a man standing with hands clasped in front of him. He wears traditional attire of Korean "yangban" or government official, and a black "gat" hat which ties below his neck. Beside him is a potted tree and a table with a vase and book on it.

p. 10 - Korean group. Group portrait of three men standing in various traditional Korean attire. The man in center wears a white robe and a "jeongjagwan" style hat. The men on either side wear more complex and colorful robes and official hats. A floral backdrop is behind them to the right, the man on the left holds a staff which he rests on a chair beside him.

p. 11 - Eunuch of palace. Portrait of a young man sitting amid several potted plants and an ornate backdrop. He wears traditional white clothing and a "jeongjagwan" style hat.

p. 12 - High official. Portrait of a man from the chest up. He wears traditional white Korean clothing and a "samo" style black hat. Behind him is a surface painted with Korean figures and characters.

p. 13 - Korean nobleman. Mayor of a province. Portrait of three men. The man in center wears an ornate, traditional Korean costume with a "geum-gwan" style hat. The young man on the left stands slightly behind him, wearing no hat. The man on the right wears white and a black "gat" on his head. A floral backdrop hangs to the right behind them.

p. 14 - Two children stand side by side, wearing shabby clothing. one carries a bundle in his head, the other a tray. They stand in front of a stone wall with thatched roof.

p. 15 - Children gambling. Three children crouch on the dirt ground, playing a game. A large group of children stand behind them watching. one child on the right throws something in the air with one hand, and in the other holds some kind of wooden toy or contraption. In the background is a wooden building with children's drawings on the side.

p. 16 - Three young children stand in the street. The one in center carries a potted plant on his/her head. Two look towards camera. Behind them is a brick wall and a doorway.

p. 17 - Korean boys. A group of boys stands in two rows. Three in the front row carry trays for street peddling held by straps around their necks. Behind them is a young man in a Western style suit and tie. In the background, a cloth backdrop and flower arrangement.

p. 18 - Schoolmaster. Portrait of a teacher and students. The teacher wears traditional white Korean attire and a "jeongjagwan" style hat. Four children sit around him on a rug, each writing on paper. A low table sits in the center.

p. 19 - Gambling. A group of adults and children sit outside on the ground, playing a game. one young man stands to the right and points at game. one of the children carries a woven basket on his back. They sit in front of a stone house with a thatched roof.

p. 20 - Candy vendor. Staged portrait of a child wearing a tray for street peddling on a strap around his neck. He holds a scissors in one hand. on the ground around him are rock and grass props.
